Frequently asked questions
No, the CSR does not have to be kept secret as it has no value other then getting your SSL Certificate generated, and does not contain any encryption keys. We do advise you don’t post it anywhere you would not want people to see what you’re doing as they will have access to the information you input into the CSR.
When you generate your CSR you will be generating your Private Key at the same time. This Private Key is what you need to keep a secret.
Certificate Authorities (The companies who issue the Certificates eg Comodo, Symantec, Geotrust ) are overseas based. We therefor have to purchase from them in USD. Because exchange rates change all the time and we sell our products onto you in AUD at highly reduced prices we need to constantly update our prices in relation to how much we buy them for. You will notice the prices go up and down each day by a few cents. We also do larger price reductions when we can buy them at a lower rate due to more bulk buying.
A Certificate Signing Request (CSR) is a unique bit of code generated when you need to have an SSL Certificate issued.
What this CSR does is pass on the information required such as the business name, domain name, locations, encryption key size and more to the Certificate Authority to be able to create your new SSL Certificate and issue it to you.
When you create your CSR it will be linked to a Private Key which will usually be created a the same time, this should be kept safe as you will also need it to install your SSL.
Yes, when you place an order for an SSL Certificate the system will check to see if you already have an SSL Certificate issued by the Certificate Authority. It will then get the remaining months and add those months onto your new order. This is generally how you renew your certificate as SSL Certificates can not have their expiry date extended due to the date being hard coded into them. To obtain remaining months on your new order/renewal it will need to be the exact same domain name and SSL Certificate type from the same Certificate Authority.
We do have an auto renewal system that will automatically place a new renewal order for you close to the expiry date on payment of the renewal invoice.
A seal will be available to you ( to be installed on your website ) when you purchase an SSL Certificate or website security product. This seal will be a logo you can place on your website to show visitors that you are secure. Visitors will be able to click on the seal to open a new window showing the security features in place on your site and any verification that was completed on your domain and business.
long-time, stable and credible organisations who have long term relationships with the browser vendors (such as Microsoft, Apple and Google) will have their own Trusted Root Certificate Authority (CA) certificate already present in browsers. A browser must contain this CA Certificate in its “Trusted Root Library” in order to “trust” certificates signed by the CA’s private key. These SSL certificates are known as “single root” certificates.
Some Certificate Authorities (CAs) do not have a Trusted Root CA certificate present in browsers, and therefore need to “chain” their roots for their certificates to be trusted by browsers. A CA with a Trusted Root CA certificate issues a certificate to the third-party certificate provider which then “inherits” the browser recognition of the Trusted Root CA and are known as “chained root” SSL certificates.
Simple answer is no. When you order your SSL Certificates from SSLTrust you get the exact same product you would get from ordering directly with the issuing authority such as DigiCert, GeoTrust, Comodo, Thawte, Sectigo, and RapidSSL. The only difference is the price – because we buy in bulk from the issuing authorities we are able to gain great saving we pass onto you, our customers.
You may change your account currency by opening a support ticket from you account manager. If you have any invoices you may not be able to change the currency and if this is the case we will suggest you open a new account with the desired currency.
